Calling all 5k runners! FLYCARB 5k at Colchester Sports Park - 25 April 2026

This is a bit of a shameless plug so apologies if not allowed.
I have partnered with a pal to start a running events company called >tempo and we have our first 3 events in the calendar, which we'd like to offer a discount to WHO members.
The first event will be the FLYCARB 5k on the afternoon of Saturday 25th Aril at Colchester Sports Park and it is shaping up to be a great race already.
The event will kick off with a junior 1 mile event followed by graded 5k races which will be paced from 14 minutes all the way up to 30 minutes (an beyond if required), all on a hopefully nice sunny day.
There will be live music, MC, food and drink available and we encourage everyone running in the earlier races to stick around and witness some extremely fast racing in our final elite 5k race which is currently looking to be paced out front to around 13:40.
WHO members can enter any or all of our 3 events with the code WHO15
Race 1 - FLYCARB 5k Spring Launch
Race 2 - FLYCARB 5mile Summer Festival
Race 3 - FLYCARB 5mile Autumn Classic
All 3 events will take place at the Colchester Sports Park, opposite Colchester United Football Ground, which is just off the A12 so very easy to get to by car.
We will be using some of the profit to reinvest back into the running community by way of an Athlete Support Program called >tempo ASP.
Financial support for runners is very poor unless you are right at the very top, which makes it harder for athletes to get there. We are aiming to identify promising Essex athletes and give them the help they need with things such as travel and accommodation expenses for big races, kit and shoes, physio, gym and club membership fees etc.
This is why we really need to drive numbers up. Event costs are quite high and we have overheads to meet before the race can turn a profit and enable us to invest in the ASP.
Also worth mentioning I am 100% volunteer on this project and have a separate full time job to pay the bills. I am only doing this myself because I like watching top class racing and to help support Essex Athletes through the ASP which I will be managing myself.
It would be great to have some support from fellow hammers but please don't bring your white hanky to wave around to identify each other, just wear your Hammers shirt in the race if you want!
