"Jaan Kenbrovin 3:58 Sat Jun 8 I think what I loved about Civil War was how they never knew how anyone would react when they got to a new place other than the people fighting wanting them (on the whole) to document them. Are they fighting for some kind of cause or is it an open invitation for people who have always wanted to shoot people? I loved the scene with the psycho wearing red plastic glasses and a truck full of dead bodies asking where the journalists were from, for instance."

"DukeofDevo 10:49 Wed Jun 12 Cheers mate, saw Under Fire years ago but I think I may give it a watch again. As for Civil War, Rolling Stone said 'it's not a documentary YET'. Films are very subjective and we all have our different tastes. I've seen films I've thought were shit then watched them again and loved them. A lot depends on the mood you're in when you see them. Also, contrary fuckers like us West Ham fans seem to love to slaughter films that some people rave about. I just like to point at a film I've enjoyed on here amongst my peers. I've enjoyed loads of stuff recommended on here and the TV thread. I would never take it personally if people think something I've enjoyed is shit. Threads like this are important more than ever because in the rush to deliver content between Netflix and the rest a LOT of REALLY shit films and documentaries are being made."

chim chim cha boo 1:15 Thu Jun 6 On the subject of Civil War and war photography; there’s a good old Nick Nolte film called Under Fire worth watching. Civil War while I enjoyed it I wondered why it’s been made now when the country and world has never been so divided!

"chim chim cha boo 1:11 Thu Jun 6 I loved the premise. Which is why I looked forward to it. It was the execution of it I thought was garbage. The characters were poor and some of the scenes didn't make sense at all. It was like Garland tried to copy apocalypse now, but didn't bother with the all the things that made that one of the very best movies ever."

"Jaan Kenbrovin 12:34 Sat Jun 1 I couldn't disagree more about Civil War, but there again I am a photographer who when doing my photography diploma at the Cass in Whitechapel met war photographers like Don McCullin and thought fuck that shit, I'm sticking to portraiture! Maybe the young photographer felt a bit tacked on but I loved that film. If the Ukraine is like that, and it is, God save them."

"I found a Haunting in Venice tried to be too clever and dark with the camera shots which maybe tried to cover up a poor storyline. Don't remember it before as a Poirot film, certainly not a cinema one, maybe it was one of Christies weaker stories. I remember Branagh and Emma Thompson in a cracking film called Dead Again at the start of their careers but both then got a bit arty and Branagh certainly IMO is a bit hit and miss."

Never been a big fan of K Branagh Remember he did a reboot of the Swedish detective series Wallander The Swedish bloke in the original series convinced as a slightly run down detective in rural Sweden Branagh in the English remake looked like a STAR slumming it in suspiciously well made clothes

Ok. Ham maybe a tad strong. But as zico pointed out. Stick him with a good supporting cast and he do a good job. Put him along side French and Saunders. And that acting powerhouse that is Gal Gadot. He looks like he’s reaching.

"Swiss - Must agree. His Murder on the Orient Express was ok ish even though you know what the story is but not a patch on Finney but this was so boring I fell asleep. Didn't help that Tina Fey was in it, he was scraping the barrel for co stars."

Made for $1 million too. Would rather 140 films like this one than 1 Marvel universe movie.
