"zeb Funnily enough, I was listening to it in the car the other and was struck by its utter simplicity. Long simple chords on an organ/synth that go on forever, a one finger hook and a stabby, simple bridge (one finger with the chord button on, I think). Add a very basic drum machine part and Almond's impassioned, theatrical vocals and there you go. A smash hit recorded in a day. "violator 11:52 Fri Dec 4 Quite - that one was bollocks in the 80s and still is. There was a brilliant episode of Soul Music on Radio 4 extra a few weeks ago where Dave Ball discussed how they made it. It was banged out in day in the Studio and used his cheap crappy gear except the the ""blink blink"" which was a sample on a Synclavier that happened to be in the studio. They though nothing of it until the master came back from States and the song been speeded up ever so slightly and that made all the difference. The two of them went of Top of the Pops, jetted over to the USA and back on Concorde and then went home to their crappy council flats in Manchester. Dave Ball had his front door graffitied and lock super glued so he had to sleep on a mate's sofa."
