If your mum was at Filton during Concorde's development, she may well have seen my father (working on the engines) and, during the school holidays, me, sat in the refectory, ostensibly to improve my French, but I suspect more to break the boredom for my father on his daily trips from Chadwell Heath to Filton.

Interesting Mike.  I seem to remember Filton mentioned but she talked more about Farnborough as that's where she met dad.  She was in the Ministry of Aviation and talked more about working under Barnes Wallis and creating a levitating bed, which according to legend was part of the experimentation towards the Hovercraft, although I have no idea.  Not sure of dates but somewhere between 1955 and 1965 I suspect considering I was born in 68 and know she had quit by then.

I saw the very last condorde flight from the balcony at home as the Heathrow approach path went over our road. It was three of them one after the other and it was a sad day.

May have said this before so apologies if I have.  I contacted British Airways several months before to see if mum would be able to take a flight as she designed concordes windows way back.  They did reply but basically to say she could if she bought a ticket along with everyone else!  Unfortunately I didn't have £20 odd grand lying around..

Wouldn't be the same without a pedantic note or two East!    Yes, I saw that re Elgin Marbles but the question would have been so bloody long you would have all been asleep by the time you had read it.  So I placed the word "referred" to rather than "named after".  Re Gretna, I didn't know that.  You learn something new every day.
