Godfather Paco Jemez

Post With Kind Regards »

Appointed 15th January.  Results since:
Spurs 2-1
Sunderland 3-1
Chelsea 2-3
Burnley 2-0
Man Utd 1-1
We seem to have had a more aggressive approach since he joined.  Seems to be animated on the touch line. Is he having a positive influence or is it all down to Nuno?  Thoughts?

That was the Sunderland game.

I heard last week from a Spanish friend that the media over there have been playing up his influence on our recent results. Could be just coincidence that he rocked up during the transfer window when we were able to change personnel and thus formation and tactics. Who knows?

Noticeable when he had a right pop at Nuno for bringing on Kilman in the Chelsea game. He at least knew that it was the wrong move. Also seen him getting angry about shit while Nuno's smugly celebrating us scoring. Seems like a bloke who won't let up even when we're doing okay, which is just what we need, especially given how many points we've lost from winning positions.

why risk anything now, maybe its them working in tandem that works

Manager made the call to bring whoever in to help. That is in itself a management skill. There will be other things like "managing up" (dealing with Sullivan etc), press conferences etc that some no.2's cant do as well. Fergie was very good at integrating great no.2's in his team. Very much part of the job.

Also, what I find interesting about us now is that we are bucking the trend of PL football by playing 2 up front and going back to a more 4-4-2 approach. Admittedly this takes far more energy as the forwards need to drop back into a midfield more and defend a lot (which is why Nuno keeps making these 70+m changes, literally to keep the energy up). So it's risky, but rewarding. Very hard for the other team to constantly attack when they know we have potentially 4 attackers matching all 4 of the their defenders. It means they cant overload us as much anytime they want. Notice when Tatty is off and we go back to a 1 up front is where our defensive problems start. (Which is why Paco argues with Nuno about bringing off an attacker for a defender doesnt work).

It’s working at the moment. Don’t care how. Change nothing.

Realistically more likely to be because we signed two strikers and lost a mardy Brazilian cսnt. Or is that too sensible?
